Oscar What?!

So last night my eyes were glued as the Oscars dazzled!  Or what I hoped would be "dazzelment".  I thought they were a little flat.  I mean I really enjoyed Billy Crystal and thought he did a great job, he did make me laugh a few times. I did enjoy the Cirque du Soleil part.  I was mostly just nervous.  I thought for sure someone was going to fall or something was going to snap.  But they did it and no one was sent to the hospital!  Victory!
Aside from that, though, I thought the acceptance speeches were average and the presenters weren't that funny - actually they were more awkward then not funny.  A few, for both parts, were good, but just overall I wasn't "wowed".  I did enjoy when that one "trio" won and was presented their Oscar by Angelina Jolie and the one guy made fun of the way she was standing - spot on and I loved every second of it!

She looked so ridiculous throwing that leg out - like we get it you're rail thin - you don’t need to just that toothpick out so everyone can see it.We understand that your thigh is about the size of my big toe.
I also love Will Ferrell & Zach Galifianakis.  Like I literally laughed out loud when Zach was "pronouncing" his name.

I did think a few of the ensembles were amaze, annnd of course some not so much!!  Here are my 2 cents - whether you want it or not!!
HITS

This is half & half - LOVE Clooney...Stacey - not so much

MISSES

Hate the sleeves, hate the hair, just not my thing.

Everything is just too severe - I need it to be a little softer.

I don't mind the dress, but she's wayyyy too young to be wearing something so mature.

Love the color, not that huge bow though - it's too much.

LOVE her, but the dress completely washes her out.

Love the color, and the lace, but not feeling the "skirt" part.

Hate the leg...and Brad needs a haircut.
I don't mind the dress and I actually love the color, but her bangs need to be a little shorter.
So that's my wrap up, hope you enjoyed it!!  Now time for THE VOICE!!

Nothing Wrong With A Lil Tim Riggins

Ugh!  I hate that the weekend is already over…and here we are again!  I did have a great weekend though. Got a lot done!!
I went to CT on Saturday.  It was so great - my bestie and I grabbed lunch & pedicures.  OHH I forgot to mention that first we took her son to a puppet show.  Seriously - I think I had nightmares - but the kids seemed to love it!  I stayed up there until late Saturday night and then headed back to the city.  Sunday my parents came in, we were all over the place!  It was really nice and then we grabbed dinner and I headed home to what would be the demise (we'll discuss later) of my evening/majority of Monday.  Monday I ran around again, cleaned up the apt, did laundry, did a few errands.  I also saw The Descendants by myself.
I loved it - it was amazing.  Sad - but so well done and just a really good movie.  I also forgot how much I don’t mind movies by myself.  It's one of those things that I really just don’t mind at all and a lot of women have said to me like "omg how could you do that - so pathetic".  Well first of all - f you.  Second of all - welcome to 2012 - I'm an independent woman (aka Destiny's Child).  Third of all it is one of those things that you can do alone (not that I don’t do most things alone), that it really doesn't matter.  It's dark, you can't talk anyway, so it's really not a big deal.  And then I was back home for an evening of my latest addiction.
Y'all I'm hooked on Friday Night Lights.
Back when it first started I watched it pretty religiously - it was on Friday nights, but at that time in my life, I was home most Friday nights, so it wasn't a big deal.  But then things changed and I only was able to watch it sporadically.  So I came across it on Netflix (I just got the "streaming" package and hooked my laptop to my TV).  Umm I can't stop.  I stayed up till like 2 am on Sunday night watching - like I could.not.stop.  I went through a season and a half over the weekend and I can't stop thinking about how excited I am to get home and watch AT LEAST one more episode.  Seriously - Tim Riggins -
be still my heart.  You are such a misunderstood bad boy and I love every ounce of you.  And Matt Saracen.
Like I wanna scoop him up - totally heart.  I mean even Coach Taylor gets to me!
Every character I like for different reasons and even the ones I don’t "like" - I like just because they make you not like them so well!  I'm not kidding - if you haven't watched this series already - get your butts out there and start watching! It's just that good!  At the rate I'm going - I'm hoping to be done with the series by Sunday…and then I'll be in mourning because it's all over.  Wahh.

Lastest Movie Love

So Giuliana and I took ourselves to see The Vow last night.  And let me tell you, I'm not embarrassed or ashamed to say I really enjoyed it.  Had a few tears, had a few laughs, had a good time in general. The thing to me that is so bananas is that this is a real life story.  Without giving too much away, it's seriously one of the most romantic stories I've heard in quite some time.  The Today show just had the "real" couple on, here's a clip.

I mean it really is an incredible story.  And lets just say that staring at Channing Tatum for 2 straight hours really wasn't that upsetting & not gonna lie - Rachel McAdams is just so pretty!

Soooo what does everyone have in store for the weekend??  I don’t have too  many plans - looking forward to a relaxing weekend.  I'm heading to CT on Saturday to visit my bestie and her family!  I can't wait to see their faces!!  And then I think my parents might come in one day - so that will be good.  I'm also dying to see The Descendants - so I'm going to try to fit that into my schedule, too!
P.S. do you all think it's funny that I just went to put on chapstick and squeezed the tube a little too hard apparently and it all went in my mouth - God help anyone that walked by my office at that moment, as I'm sure I looked just lovely!  And side note I knew someone that used to call chapstick/lip balm: "lip chap".

I just find this wrong on so many levels.   Is it like a regional thing??  Does everyone do this?!  I can't remember who exactly it was, but if my mind isn't failing me (which it most likely is) I think it was a girl from good 'ol Pennsey!  I mean is it the equivalent to like "soda" and "pop"?!  I've never heard anyone else say it, but who am I??  Just not someone too fond of the phrase I suppose.
Anywyas, I digress.  I have to run to the bathroom for 87th time today!  This water drinking sure is annoying!!  Have fab weekends everyone!!

Cupid's Arrow Must Have Missed Me

Happy V Day!  Not to be confused with "VD DAY", which is something I'd never want to be involved in!  Sooo I've had a bit of an interesting day today.  Let me break this down for you.
- Wake up, as per usual.  The girl living above me screaming "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY"…this is not as per usual and this was certainly NOT the way I wanted to begin my day.  Nevertheless, here we are.
- My hair was like static central.  I had taken a shower the night before (after the gym) and so I decided to throw it up in a cute ponytail, but the static was uncontrollable.  So I tried to curl it a bit, put it up, sprayed it and now it won't move - apparently I have like ammmaahhhzing hair spray.
- Can't choose what to wear.  Didn't want to wear "red" and be cheesy, but didn't want to wear all black and be "that girl".  So I choose a black dress, black tights & red pumps - cute right?!
- Got caught up in the Today Show…annnnd now I'm late!
- Roll into work late, awesome.  Go to my office, I'm sweating because I basically ran the mile to work.  My wrap dress is all discombobulated and basically my boobs are hanging out.  Quickly fix that.
- On my way to get my daily breakfast of grapefruit, I run into the "head boss" guy here.  This was our exchange:

Me:  Morning!
Him:  Ohhh you're all dressed up today!  You look nifty!!
Me:  Umm I dress up everyday!
Him: Welllll sometimes.
Me:  Awkwardly giggle and slow jog back to my office.
Sooo basically I thought I was dressing up for work most days - apparently not so much.  Sweet.
- Back to my desk to receive this card from my bestest Valentine - Isabella.  This pretty much made my day.
- Filed my taxes.
- Went to the school I volunteer at during lunch.  I swear if you ever need an ego boost - just catapult yourself into a first grade class.  I literally opened the door and they were screaming "I missed you" "We love you" "Will you be my Valentine".  It was great!  Made me smile!  So they were bananas today - they had a few "parties" and were literally off the walls.  The hour went by quickly - I almost felt bad leaving the teacher - literally they were insane today!
- Grabbed a salad on my way back to work.  The salad guy was the most action I got all day.  As he was handing it to me, he winked at me and said "Happy Valentine's Day".  Awesome - I heart you! P.S. the salad was awful - not sure what happened - but I basically had to throw it out.
- So now I'm hungry and I'm heading to a spin class after work - hope I don’t pass out.
- Celebrating tonight with a glass of wine and some last nights' episode of The Voice & Real Housewives of Orange County!
I hope you all have fabulous Valentine's Days!!  XOXO

D "C...I still Miss Ya"

For some reason today I'm feeling nostalgic for my old stomping grounds - Washington, DC!!  Not sure why this sudden wave of "home sickness" - I mean the obvious ones are missing the great people/friends I left behind - but I do keep in touch with most of them.  Anyways - I thought it might be a fun opportunity to highlight a few of my favorite "spots" down there and next time you visit - you should definitely check them out!!

Ella's Wood Fired Pizza
OMG how I miss Ella's!  This was the "birthday lunch" spot for the 3+ years that I worked at my former place of employment.  Not only do they have the best pizza, but the sangria is amazing.

I recall one occasion when Ruby and I were just going to "grab dinner" randomly after work and whoops - 2 pitchers later we found ourselves at another bar with Ruby throwing my business cards at random men hoping to find me a date.  Although that part didn't work - the food/drinks was right on par!  Even the "Mixed Greens" salad is delish.  Ruby, Juan & I did try to figure out the recipe for the dressing once, however we all felt strongly it had different ingredients - the only common one being olive oil - so needless to say none of us could recreate this one.  This is definitely a "must go" if you have some time down there.

Matchbox
One word - SLIDERS!

By far Matchbox has the BEST sliders I've ever had.  They're just perfection. The are on these amazing brioche buns with a little pickle and served with these delectable onion straws.  In fact, Ruby & I ate those (and pizza & about 2 bottles of wine) before the Justin Timberlake concert - if I haven't discussed this before - I will - it's a good one.  The only problem was that we both tend to get indigestion at times and this was one, coupled with the fact that we had to drink beer out of straws - so gross.  We were burping up onion straws all night.  Haha - soooorrrry to the people around us!!  Whoops!

Luna
Now I used to live in Bethesda, right outside the city, and this store was my savior.  I was so obsessed. The girls working there are complete dolls and over time got to "know" me - kinda embarrassing/kinda loved it.  The clothes are a great mix of inexpensive/pricier.  The jewelry is fab - again you can find a ton of stuff for really not that much.  It's def a go to if you're in the area!

Founding Farmers
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.  Not only is the food is so fresh and awesome, the décor is fab.  The drinks are the best!  You can just taste the organic/freshness in everything.  And the best part - it's not crazy expensive!  I've had a bunch of different things on the menu and I've never been disappointed.  They also have a sister restaurant in Georgetown on the water called "Fishers & Farmers" - go to either one - you wont be let down!

Georgetown Cupcakes
Speaking of Georgetown, I'd be remiss if I didn't include Georgetwon Cupcakes on this list.  Hands down - the best cupcakes.  Period.

And I've tried a ton, including the ones in NYC.  I still go back to them every time!  The cake is so tasty and the icing is "just enough"!  I heart them and miss them immensely - but my waistline - not so much!

Georgetown Shopping
Despite what a pain in the butt it was to get in there, I do miss wandering around Georgetown on a beautiful spring/fall day.  It's such a great little area and the shopping is fabulous.  And now they even have a Vineyard Vine!!  Amazeballs!

Afterwords Cafe
Now this is more of a "quirky" place.  It's in the back of a "mom & pop" bookstore.

Basically the food is fabulous and the price is just right.  It's a perfect spot to have a good meal, but not feel like you're breaking the bank.  I usually go for the salmon & the mashed potatoes - can. not. go wrong.  And the wine/drink list is great!

Lauriol Plaza
Now this was one of my main jams.  Seriously - this Mexican place is to die for.  The best part is - the margaritas are the best in the area!

My guuurrlls and I would go here for Valentine's Day dinner (whether we were single or not) and just sit up on the rooftop (they put us up there to make room for all the other couples downstairs) and eat and drink.  We'd just have so much fun - I miss that tremendously!  The enchiladas and margs - that was my go to.  And the guac is fantastic!

The National Mall
This is something that I really miss daily.  During my work day - instead of lunch - I used to either go to the gym in our building or head out for a run.  I was so fortunate to work in such a gorgeous area of the city.  I would run down to the Capitol building and then up through the National Mall.  It was amazing to just get lost in the "DC-ness" of it and enjoy the people watching!  Of course I had my "hating tourists" moments, but overall, I really enjoyed those runs!

As much as I heart NYC, I still do miss certain things about DC.  They are both amazing cities.  BUT there is NOTHING quite like NYC and this is my home - it's great to be back!!

Super Re-Cap

Happy Monday, my little pretties!!  I hope you all had fabulous weekends.  Mine was very low key and family filled.  I had a baby shower for my cousin and stayed at my parents for the whole weekend! It was just so nice to be home.  Sometimes you just need it - and it's like the best thing in the world!
So - GO BLUE!!!  Giants won!!
Wahoo!  The first thing my mother said when they ended the game was…
Mom:  ugh - you'll have to take a cab home from work Tuesday!
Me:  why's that?!
Mom:  you know - with the ticker tape parade and all.  There'll be too many crazies and drunks.  I don’t want you walking home.
Me:  I think I'll be ok - but I do love you.
Oh how she worries - gotta love her!!  Anyways….the game - ahhh the game!!  So good!  I love when it's exciting towards the end like that.  And I heart Eli.  Tom Brady - not so much.  And this picture just made me laugh.
Sorry - Pats fans - but it did.

Now onto the rest of the game.  Here are my take-aways:
1.  I didn't love the commercials.  The only one I can even really remember liking is the Sketchers one with the dog - I actually laughed out loud.  Too cute.

2.  Kelly Clarkson rocked my socks off with the National Anthem.
I was so nervous for her and after last year's Christina fiasco - I was scuurred.  But she pulled through and did a phenom job.
3.  Miranda Lamberts pink microphone with rhinestones - totally necessary.

4.  Cee Lo is basically my hero.  Like who else can pull off that ensemble?!

5.  Madonna was ok for me - I think she was a little "flat".  I was just expecting so much energy and excitement and I really wasn't "wowed".
6.  The men who were bouncing off the wires - like how did they find out that was a real "job"?!

7.  MIA - really not necessary to give the good 'ol U S of A the bird.  Keep it to yourself - this is a family show.
8.  Nicki Minaj - you are incredible.  That's all.

So who's watching THE VOICE?!  Season 2 - starting now!!  Cyrusly - I'm so excited!!!  OH and don’t forget - second installment of RHBH is on tonight, too!  OMG fab night of TV watching coming at me live!!  Until next time!
